Ryan was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2011. After learning how to manage his disease and maintain his health, he dove full speed ahead into his racing career. With the help of his family in Bakersfield, CA, he formed a non-profit called Ryan’s Mission to raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes and support others in the NASCAR community who are affected by the disease.
Ryan works with Lilly Diabetes and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to raise awareness about Type 1 diabetes and support the Drive to Stop Diabetes movement. He also attends ADA and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) events and gives inspirational speeches. His goal is to stand up for the community and inspire those who are managing diabetes while also chasing their dreams.

Ryan Reed drives the #16 Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang for the Roush Fenway Racing team. At age 19, he signed with Roush Fenway Racing as a developmental driver. He secured a full-time position in 2014 and has been driving in the NASCAR Xfinity Series ever since.
